Weekword – Nostalgic – Updated

by Junebug

My great grandma and grandpa right after their wedding in 1908.

My gma and gpa on their wedding day.(on right)  My great uncle and great aunt on the left.

Christine E-E at Silver Linings 4 Me is the host this week.  Sorry I’m so late in getting this up but we had to go for a long walk this morning.  Nostalgic works for me because I spent last weekend on the farm with my family.  A therapist once told me, “You realize that not everyone was raised in a family like yours, right?”  Before then I don’t think I did.  My mother had ten brothers and sisters.  Her father had ten brother and sisters and her mom had six.  Most lived on farms near each other.  I spent much of my time with my cousins.  We were raised almost like brothers and sisters.  Any uncle or aunt could discipline any of us kids.   There were few bathrooms and even fewer boundaries.  My hubby barely knows his cousins or even his aunts and uncles.  I feel very connected to my family and my history.  So when I’m feeling nostalgic I turn to my photos.  I was having trouble with my photos today and honestly I am giving up.  They will not open up in my photo program after I transferred them to this computer!!!  Ahhhh!!!!    They aren’t the best quality.  If I have time after my homework this evening I might try to redo the post.

My gpa with his brothers.  I’m not sure where his sisters were hiding.
Two uncles and an aunt playing on the farm.  So cute.

Some of my cousins and I for S’s b-day. I’m in the middle and I’m mad.

Some of my cousins and I this past weekend.  Five of us from the photo above.  The guy in the hat was the baby in the top pic.  I’m in the middle again.  Hmmm?  A theme?

 Eavesdropping on myself:
At the farm last weekend.  Three aunts were in the garden picking grapes.  Two aunts, two cousins, hubby and I were inside when my uncle shouted in the back door.
Uncle:  “Hey!  Come out here.  You guys need to see this neat cloud.”
Me:  “K”

Did you see that cloud?

Aunt puts out her cigeratte:  “I’m coming.”
Hubby:  “Are we all really going outside to look at a cloud?”
Me:  “Yep.  That’s how we roll.”

That was some cloud!

I’m glad I come from a family that is happy to gather in the yard to look at an unusual cloud.  It had changed by the time we got out there but I hear it was perfectly square.   Life really is about the moments we spend together.

it is sad when computers are not working properly! I also have a large family of 11 cousins and many aunts and uncles.
It's nice to meet his family at times and we always have fun then.

Hugs and with the friendliest greetings

I'm with family right now! so I can totally identify with spending time with family & although my family isn't huge like yours, I have amazing memories!
And, YES, I am guilty of reprimanding my nieces & nephews – especially their table manners!
Thanks for participating this week.

so glad to see the old pics now! reminds me a lot of growing up with my mother's side of the family, as she is the youngest of 8, and there were always a gazillion cousins, aunts and uncles at my grandparents' house when i was growing up.

I came back to check the pics… how wonderful you have these… my dad was raised by his grandparents (dad disappeared at 4 years old & his mom was ill w/TB & in a sanitarium??) so we have only 2 pictures of him as a child… but we do have a pic of his parents on their wedding day. It's very cool… makes me think I should do some research on the background of his family.
thanks for letting me enjoy your pics.

You are lucky to come from such a family! Don't ever lose your sense of wonder regardless of whether you have someone to share it with :)

Nothing beats cloud watching with loved ones! And ditto what Elisabeth noted about your last sentence. ;o)

I love moments like that! And that is how my family is, though not as large anymore :) But yeah, going outside for clouds? Absolutely :)

I loved this post, Junebug. The photographs are great, and I especially love the two versions of you with your cousins. What a great way to grow up! And what's especially nice is that you've all clearly remained close.

And I think a family that gathers to look at a cloud is the kind of family that I'd be proud to be a member of (and so I can well understand why you are!).
