A Stitch Supports Team USA

London Olympic Games Countdown!

Marathon Olympic Trials. All Rights Reserved for Team USA. This photo was taken on January 14, 2012 using a Canon EOS-1D Mark II N.

There is one very easy way you can support Team USA right now.  Buy a stitch at Raise Our Flag!   A stitch in an American Flag.  It only costs $12!!!  That is 2 Starbucks coffees.

Did you know that Team USA is one of the countries where the Olympians receive no government funding and rely on the support of people like you and me?

What does  a stitch buy?

4 Stitches provide a month of prepared meals for one athlete.

15 stitches supply one athlete with a months worth of groceries.  Although after seeing the clip on how much Michael Phelps eats while he is training, I’m pretty sure he requires 60 stitches a month.

20 stitches equal one pair of boxing gloves.

125 stitches provide starting blocks for the USA swimming team.

So far California is leading in the number of stitches bought.

1. California

2. New York

3. Texas

4. Colorado

5. Florida

6.  Pennsylvania

7. Ohio

8. Virginia

9. New Jersey

10. Georgia (During the time I bought we fell from 8th to 10th place)

I bought two stitches which is about how often I get Starbucks in a month right now.  I dedicated the stitches to my family.  It is fun to see Baby Bug’s name on the wall of donors.  I hope one day she can be an Olympian and I can show her how we have supported Team USA her whole life.

Our country is huge and only 6, 328 stitches had been bought at the time I wrote this post.  We can do better!

Ready to support our team?  Click over to Raise Our Flag right now and give a stitch.

Love the idea, and especially the name of Baby Bug on the wall.

You’ve gotta be kidding me. R42.00 for a cup of coffee? Here it’s about R6.00.
You Americans are crazy. :)
God bless the american team, even it they are taken for a ride.

This is so interesting! I had no idea that the Olympians had to raise support. I don’t know where I thought they got the time and money to dedicate their lives to training for the Olympics. Thanks for letting us know about this!

I heard about this stitch idea while we were visiting the UK – it’s such a great fundraising plan!

Sad that these Olympians have to raise money on their own.

I had no idea about this issue regarding the Olympic team. A very neat fundraising concept. My only question would be, is this American flag going to be made in the USA of American fabric sewn by Americans? I saw some USA Olympic merchandise for sale that was made in China. I’m going to contact them and see if I can get details before I pledge my support. Very interesting, thanks!
